Thank You Donald Trump:  A Trumptych

Used in a sentence:  "Today, I offer up part one of what will eventually be a full 'Thank you Donald Trump:  A Trumptych'".

For those who don't know of "triptychs", it's three pieces of "art" that can be viewed individually, but belong displayed together.

As for the "thanks" side of things, I have been faced with a little bit of criticism that I maybe should be more positive about the PresiDOLT (oops -- see -- just like healthcare, who knew that breaking old habits is *hard*).  Hence, I have searched my soul and I have found something (actually, three things) for which I am grateful related to the Trumpster.

To whit, Thank You Donald Trump for bringing a focus on prayer back to my life.  I now have a standard saying of grace for such occasions -- simple and sweet yet decidedly pithy:  "Dear Lord, please protect us all from Donald Trump."

May sweet Arab baby Jesus hear our words ...

Random TNT for Tuesday 4/4/17

TNT ... Chicago 14

1  The phone call was as welcome as it was unexpected.  2  That being said, it also was rather short.

3  Zar hadn't really provided any details -- only that he wanted to meet her for a quick lunch.  4  She fully expected that he'd take the time breaking bread together to fill in the blanks as to why he had gone radio silent since that New Year's Eve party.  5  The last she knew, he was on the curb outside that apartment building vomiting.

6  Then nothing from him for three months.

7  Not that she hadn't tried.  8  She had stalked him on social media.  9  She had texted him at all hours of the day.  10  She had left messages for him until she got the automated voice when she called saying that his mailbox was full and was no longer accepting them.

11  Ultimately, she got the message that no message from him meant that he hadn't forgiven her for inviting his nemesis J to that New Year's Eve party.

12  As she walked in to the fast casual restaurant in the hip part of town she wondered why he hadn't set up the meeting closer to where they lived -- in the "up and coming", "soon to be gentrified" neighborhood.  13  If nothing else, *that* could be the conversation starter.

14  She scanned the eating establishment and didn't see him sitting alone at one of the booths or the tables.  15  She immediately started to deal with more questions.  16  Would he be a no-show?  17  Should she order and take a seat seeing as how she was the first to arrive?  18  What *was* the soup of the day?

19  With that last thought creeping in, Marta realized that she was as hungry for lunch as she was for information and a re-connection with her bestie.  20  She *would* order, and, if he didn't show, she would at least be able to cross lunch off of her list of things to do.

21  One question was very quickly answered.  22  The soup of the day was chicken noodle.  23  Hot and hearty soup on an early spring day in Chicago when the winds blew off the lake to remind the citizens that winter was only in hiding and not yet banished from the kingdom would be most appreciated.

24  Marta stood off to the side waiting for the employees to dish up her meal and for her number to be called, and she passed the time gazing out to the hustle and bustle on the sidewalk outside of the place.  25  That's when she saw Zar walk past ... not once ... not twice ... but *three* times before he yanked on the door and walked in.

26  She waved.  27  He waved back.  28  "That was a good start," she mused.  29  Then she thought she heard him call out her name, but on the repeating of it, she realized her soup was ready and the girl behind the counter was trying to get her attention.

30  Marta grabbed the tray with her bowl on it and exaggeratedly mouthed to Zar as she got closer to where he was in line.  31  "I'll grab us a booth," she said in a loud whisper, gesturing with her head to the general location where she would be found.

32  Zar smiled awkwardly and gave her a thumbs up.

33  "A good start ... a good start," she repeated to herself as she scouted out a location for the upcoming conversation.

34  "Should she go to a back corner so they'd have privacy?" she wondered as she wandered.  35  "Or maybe out in the open where he couldn't so easily yell at her if he was still upset over her party foul?"

36  She settled on a corner table in the front by those windows.  37  That way, if the experience turned out to be as awkward as his smile had just been, she could use the outside world passing by as a distraction.  38  Besides, he only got mean and yell-y when he was wasted and it was only lunch time.  39  Surely he was mostly sober at this time of the day.  40  She didn't have to force things to be out in the open.

41  He arrived shortly thereafter with a mostly empty tray and a number, which he fastened to the gadget that was holding the salt and pepper shakers.

42  "They have to bring mine out," he said as he provided an explanation while he took a seat across from her.

43  At practically the exact same time, they said the exact same thing to each other.

44  "So -- how ya been?"

Random Memorial for Monday 4/3/17

Gone but not forgotten:  yet another Reba release (I promise ... I'll be throwing away music from other performers later in the year).

This time, it's her 23rd album going in the trash (not out of protest or anything -- just because we also have the CD and hoarding is something I'm working on ... slowly).

Instead of one of the four released singles, the tune that will be featured tonight is one of inspiration for all of us to find a way to live in a "state of grace", like Kmart worker Grace does in the song.

Little ditty that includes this classic lyric:  "Attention blue-light shoppers, Two for one on broken chains" ... and album from which it came ... you will be missed.

Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 4/2/17

What southern Florida is talking about this week:

The fact that spiders, if they wanted to, could eat every single one of us.

Lookit -- I am very fond of the creatures I see in the back yard (so long as they remain the smallest size of course), what with all of their bug eating skills.  But that being said, I have to admit to being a little skeeved out at the news that the spiders could literally eat all of us and *still* be hungry in the morning.

All I'm saying is let's agree to be friends ... and I'll promise to keep your webs up and running as much as possible so that you don't start wondering how tasty I'd be.  Just sayin' ...

Random Soapbox for Saturday 4/1/17

I don't mean to go off on a rave here, but ...

... I will ... because all throughout the Lenten season, I'm going to rave instead of rant ...

[note:  I know you're likely not reading this until long after Lent, but thanks to the power of post-dating on the blog, I'm going to slip this in to the spot where I had originally intended it to be ... AND ... despite it being tagged for April 1, everything contained herein is TRUE and not a Fools' Joke]

There's something heartwarming when you find out that the person who owns the other half of this particular artifact from my tangible memory shelf (doesn't everyone have one of those?) still has it AND has it somewhere close enough to show up in the midst of a surprise Facebook chat.  This rock was split up over 25 years ago in what started as an acting exercise of sorts (hint:  'Come Blow Your Horn') when each of us had it in our pockets during the show, and it went on to represent a brotherly bond that came along at just the right time for me and my development back in the day when I was a young 'un in need of a role model or two on what it meant to be a man.

Time has definitely passed (did I mention 25 years!) ... and one of us just turned 50 (which is why I'm not naming names) ... and who'd have thunk it that we both now are Floridians (although on opposite coasts).  Funny how life plays out sometimes ... here's to maybe reuniting these sacred stones in the near future.

In lieu of the usual companion links in triplicate, here's the photographic evidence that the other half still exists:

JUST ONE MORE ... pushup (April 2017)

JUST ONE MORE ... pushup.

New month ... new challenge -- 'cause that's how we do things now that I've taken to promoting a different monthly challenge that somehow relates to my concept of embracing incremental change in order to empower folks (or just me) to stay positive and solution-focused in a day and age where problems often seem insurmountable, control often seems out of reach and apathy often seems to be running rampant.

Sometimes the challenges speak to the greater good ... or the betterment of humanity ... and sometimes the challenges are a little selfish.  This month, it's definitely more of a personal one ... but that doesn't mean YOU can't join in.

It's also not exactly new, as it was first mentioned in a post on my Facebook at the beginning of the year, when I declared this the year of the pushup.  It follows the year of the bicep curl in 2016, and it's organized thusly:  each day, I'm to do the number of the exercise equal to the DAY of the month for the amount of sets equal to the NUMBER of the month (i.e. 3 sets of 20 on March 20 but only 4 sets of 1 on April 1).

Admittedly, there's a cap of sorts related to what can actually be done (my year of the bicep curl peaked at 72 [in all permutations of that formula {and pun fully intended}] and I continue to work at increasing that number), but at the front end of 2017, I should be ripping through the numbers for pushups.  That being said, I've had some interruptions in the last two months, so I thought I'd use this ongoing concept as a way to hold myself accountable to catching up on the challenge that I previously issued.

Won't you join me?  Let's work together (and work out together) and make progress towards that goal of increasing the total by just one more ... pushup.
