Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 8/12/18

What southern Florida is talking about:

... the opening of the first local clusterf*ck known as a diverging diamond intersection.

To be fair, though, it only LOOKS to be a clusters of f*cks ... and it actually has been known to reduce crashes by up to 60% in one notable example (found in the links below/to follow).

And what is IT exactly?  It's a NEW way of approaching an intersection with a major highway's entrance and exit ramps where the traffic temporarily crosses over and drives on the opposite side of the road.  I have a feeling that you have to drive through one to really appreciate the reduction in traffic congestion and to understand it beyond the diagram that accompanies this post.

Which, now that the first one in the SoFlo opens tomorrow down in Miami (NW27th Ave and the Dolphin Expressway, for those who want to be the first to try it out), us traditional folk can actually see what all the fuss is about!  (Warning, drivers may also temporarily speak in a Madonna-style faux-British accident during and after the navigation of the DDI.)

YOU CAN LOOK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE A DDI IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS!:
