Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 2/11/18

What southern Florida is talking about this week:

You know.  Just the usual.  Just another man shot dead -- but this time at the big intersection only a few blocks away.

Lest you start worrying for me, it was 16 blocks away -- at a gas station/restaurant combo at the corner of Broward and Powerline.  But it was at 2pm in the afternoon ... and it is an intersection through which I've walked when I go downtown for events on Saturdays.  (Note to self:  change that route next time I'm coming home from a festival.)

The news stories make it seem like it was targeted -- a black SUV pulled up in the parking lot and shot a 46 year old "who was trying to get his life back on track", so one presumes that something from his past was still in play ... although an innocent bystander (who "was selling CDs in the parking lot") was also caught in the crossfire -- not fatally so.

Coincidentally, today also marks the four year anniversary of leaving behind one of the deadliest cities in the country (although kudos to Chitown for ONLY having 650 murders last year [a 15% reduction]) ... and with the FTL (the place to which we moved) having been named the least safe city in America by WalletHub (although for a list of criteria that goes beyond murders), it does make me wonder if death and destruction follow me ... or if it's just this way everywhere.

In the meantime, though, I'm going to continue to not make eye contact and to practice my duck and cover.  Stay safe out there!
