Amish Saffron

Used in a sentence:  "Admittedly, I stopped living Amish-country-adjacent way back in 2001 when we made the big move from central PA to Chicago, so maybe that explains why I didn't know that the latest crop affiliated with that special group of people is something known as Amish Saffron."

Or maybe it's just that I wasn't as much of a "foodie" back then (although, realistically, I stand by my previous statements that I'm actually more of an "eatie" than a "foodie" as traditionally defined) -- seeing as how that special yellow color in the authentic PA Dutch chicken pot pie has always been from saffron.

It turns out that my connecting the dots (or the stems, as it were) is from local coverage of how other places in America are turning to growing saffron as a quick cash crop -- as opposed to the Amish and Mennonites who are hoping that the saffron cultivating will just keep the kids down on the farm in an increasingly modern world.

Note to self:  after this year's experiment with the sunflowers in the garden box, consider a get rich quick saffron scheme for next growing season ...
